life's too short for ugly shoes.

I suppose, as an introductory post, rather than carry on and on about my characteristics, personality traits, etc. I’ll explain my screen name. I mean, if you read this blog at all, you’ll have a better understanding of who I am than you would from me shouting adjectives at you.

Sssunday is short for Slutty Shoe Sunday. This was a photo series on my Facebook account born out of boredom. I was working somewhere around 60 hours a week, six days a week, in a retail store for a well-known cell phone conglomerate. I hated it. (Or, MOST of it anyway. If you’ve ever wondered what Hell must be like, take a job in retail.) My boss was a jackass, most of the people that came in the door were indifferent if not downright mean {with the exception of a few truly amazing people of course – they made it bearable}, and my shortest shift of the week was always Sunday. Being required to stand for the duration of my shift meant that I was forced to wear ugly, sensible shoes. Ugly shoes will drain the life force out of a person if they’re not careful, and I felt like that was what was happening to me.

One Sunday, I decided that instead of the same flats I wore every day I was going to do it up big. I put on the tightest pencil skirt I could wear to work without getting written up, and a pair of the sexiest, most impractical hooker shoes I owned. I took a picture of my footwear for the day and dubbed it, “Slutty Shoe Sunday.” (I thought that was pretty clever, mental pat on the back for that little gem right there.)

I actually got a lot of compliments about my attire that day. People thought I looked nice, and they LOVED the shoes. I felt great, with the exception of wanting to CUT OFF MY FEET by the end of the day. Suddenly, Sunday’s weren’t so bad! The pictures garnered a bit of interest amongst my Facebook friends, and soon they became requested. I got hilarious critiques from friends about whether my shoes that Sunday were “slutty” enough. I loved it. It was the only part of the work week that I looked forward too, other than my day off or the always popular PAYDAY.
The first Sunday that I neglected to post something for resulted in a small backlash. People were actually disappointed that I hadn’t posted anything! I couldn’t believe that something so silly had generated such interest. It’s not like anyone was rioting in the streets if I didn’t post a picture, but the fact that anybody at all even CARED what kind of shoes I was going to post was awesome to me. There were a couple of people who actually got OFFENDED by the title. That alone made it all worth it. Let’s face it, those people clearly suck and I’ll take any excuse I can get to screw with them. (I have very little tolerance for people with no sense of humor.)

I haven’t posted anything for Slutty Shoe Sunday in months, but I think I’m going to start doing it again very soon. {To be honest with you, I was starting to run out of shoes.} I miss it. And I miss having that one little moment in the week that I knew I could look forward to. It was fun, and personally I don’t really need any excuse to go shopping, but it was also a damn good reason to invest in more shoes.
